This presentation will focus on three primary themes:

1. We will consider the commoditization of professional service firms (and many segments of the economy) and conspicuous the impact this will have on business development. Although the trend toward commoditization is inexorable, proper understanding can lead to greater opportunities.

2. Corporate culture will play a crucial role in mitigating the effects of such a process. In the future it no longer simply matters what you do (as many people can do what you do), but how you do what you do.

3. We shall then consider three distinct behaviors/strategies first articulated by Aristotle to enhance brand equity and the gravitational thrust of commoditization.

Ethical behavior stands as a tacit part of the presentation—all successful cultures must have a foundation of ethical decision making in order to flourish in this newly transparent world. If the end products become more and more alike, only a culture will survive to differentiate one firm from another. This differentiator must be the excellence of culture.
